Understanding THC

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the primary intoxicating compound in cannabis. Not all THC is the same — and legal status depends on both the source plant and the state you live in.

Delta-9 vs delta-8 vs delta-10

These are all forms of THC that differ slightly in molecular structure. Delta-9 is the most well-studied. Delta-8 and delta-10 are typically milder and are often produced from hemp-derived CBD.

Hemp-derived vs cannabis-derived

Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp is defined as cannabis containing 0.3% or less delta-9 THC by dry weight. Products above that threshold are regulated at the state level as marijuana.

What to expect

  • Relaxation, altered perception, and appetite changes
  • Possible dry mouth, red eyes, or short-term memory effects
  • Dose-dependent anxiety at higher amounts

Combining THC with CBD

Many people find that a small amount of CBD alongside THC can soften intensity and improve tolerability. This is sometimes called the "entourage effect."
